Project 12 x 2 - 1, Scene 23: New Bombay

To my mind, the life of a lamb is no less precious than that of a human being.
- Mahatma Gandhi
To end our project, it is with great prejudice that I have to save the best for last.

Ang intro:
Naging instant peborit namin ni Katlina ang New Bombay since naging couple kami. I introduced her to the place pagkatapos niyang sabihin na mahilig sya sa spicy foods. And albeit some negative first impressions, the quality of food immediately changed everything of what she initially thought. Naging regular customer kami instantly... as in, twice to thrice a month regular.

ang bagong menu... sosi na!

Our branch-of-choice is the one in Glorietta 3. It's facing the park right in front of the 6750 Building, a few steps to the left after going out of the Glorietta 3 exit. This is the same side where Subway, A Venetto, Max's, and Kamayan are (copy-paste lang ito from the A Venetto entry).

Obviously, authentic Indian cuisine ang offering nila. Not necessarily spicy dahil may option namang lutuin ng spicy, medium, or mild para sa lahat ng ulam. Syempre, kami ni Coach Potato palaging spicy!

papa dom featuring coriander at sampalok dip

** Appetizer
Ganun. Same dip ito with chicken samosa's, and you will need the dip dahil medyo mapakla ito by itself.

** Sabaw
As in, aaaaaang sarap (ganyan kadaming 'a' sa sobrang sarap). It comes in mutton or chicken sahog but it doesn't matter really dahil yung sabaw lang nito ang hinahabol-habol namin.

mutton boti tikka

prawn tandoori

malai murg tikka (yub yub!)

** Ihaw
A tandoor is a clay oven at ang tandoori ay kung ano mang lutuin gamit ang isang tandoor. New Bombay offers a lot of tandoor-roasted food or tandoori. Eto yung pinaka-safe orderin kung medyo hindi adventurous yung tiyan ng kakain with the more exotic recipes. Try the chicken variants, boneless at sakto ang pagkaka-ihaw. Consistently hindi nagkaka-sobrang sunog na part. Chicken garlic kebab tastes good in particular. Binudburan ng garlic powder.

mutton kofta (default order!)

binawasang chicken kofta (not in menu)

** Kofta
Kofta ang Middle Eastern term for dishes of rolled meat of any kind. Yung mga kofta ng New Bombay ay naka-sahog sa curry sauce na kasing thick din ng sauce ng most dishes nila. Yung malai kofta ay veggies rolled in mashed potato and marinated in malai (research nyo na lang kung ano 'to) cream. Hindi na namin inulit orderin ito after the first time dahil mas masarap pa din yung meat variants (mutton, shrimp, or chicken).

tawa keema mutton

mutton dupia

tawa gosht

** Mutton
Karne ito ng lamb. Sari-sari ang dishes nila made from this. Rogan josh yung isa sa mga specialty. Mutton in a really thick red curry sauce na napaka flavorful ng spices.

Boneless chicken cooked in tandoor ang gamit nilang sahog and cooked in masala cream sauce. May cheese melt pa sa taas ang presentation.

shrimp curry

** Seafood
Andami.

peshwari naan

cheese capsicum naan

** Naan

mutton hydrabad rice

** Biryani
Paella is to Spain as biryani is to India as sinangag na kanin is to Pinas. Gets? Eto usually yung nagpapa-anghang ng buong meal namin kapag "spicy" option ang pinipili namin (which is most of the time).

** Dessert
Gulabjamun is a must try! Bread balls ito made generally of milk tapos deep fried at pinapaliguan ng sugar syrup pagkatapos. Win! Kulfi is Indian ice cream. Sabi nila mas creamy ang ice cream na ito than the more pop-culture type na nakilala naten.

buko pandan lassi

** Lassi
Yogurt (can be flavored) and blended with water and sweetened ingredients.

The ambiance is as Indian as it can get lalo na kapag may random Indian customers at yung cheerful nilang Indian manager na ang galing mag Tagalog ay andun. Si Mehir (he's got a name now, salamat kay Dave).

aum sweet aum!

Para sakin, they caught the right spice we wanted on our food kaya kami naging regular.

Sa sobrang dami ng options sa pagkain, hindi nakakasawang bumalik and try out each of it.

But if it was me at first time kong kakain dito, stay with the house staples: yung mutton rogan josh at chicken tikka masala, and the tandoori dishes. Patok na yung mga yun, subok na.

tantric dinner

Talk with manager. He usually goes around and talk with the customers and is more than willing to entertain your comments about the place. Really nice guy and accomodating.

The damage:
Price range is at P220 to P260.

In any case, it's a fair price given authentic Indian yung food at ang isang dish can serve up to two. Mas madami ang kakain mas sulit dahil mas bababa ang pag-hahatian at mas dadami ang masusubukang dishes.

part of the improved menu

Ang hatol:
New Bombay (especially this branch) will always have a place in our hearts dahil ito ang takbuhan namin kapag stress kami sa trabaho or kung kelangan namin ng comfort food. Sounds weird to have spicy dishes for comfort but it has its magics and if it works, it works!

Food is exotic but good and if it's for sharing, it's worth it. For wimps, be adventurous and try it.
