Astig. I gots me-self a Chinese name yesterday.

Pinaglalaruan ko kasi 'tong English-Chinese Dictionary website na 'to kahapon tas matagal ko na din talagang trip magkaron ng Chinese name. For some strange reasons, I have this affinity with a LOT of Chinese stuffs (and wimmen... *grin*). In fact, I bought me a LOT of random thingamajigs from the Chinese community in Sydney: jade dice, Chinese chess set, inscribed chopsticks, a well-detailed dragon miniature centerpiece (iL repaint this one for insanity's sake), a small cuddly brass Buddha figurine, and a Buddhist inspired sweater, to name a few. I think it's cool how rich their centuries-old culture is despite modernization and all, most of it are preserved and in practice until now.

So, ayun... I did some research on Chinese name variations and its English equivalents so that the name iL be coining will make sense. I did ask around too for pointers from my Chinese friends. Back in Sydney, I was already talking about Chinese names with my Chinese mates so I at least have some hints on how to formulate. I also had Mandarin as foreign language subject waaaay back in my Uni days (when dinos rule the world) and no matter how inattentive I was, I still can recall some lectures.


Pian Bi Ming
That's pronounced as "piyen bi miyuhng".

"Pian" is the surname. Of course, you know that Chinese starts their name with their surname first before the given name. "Pian" literally translates to "small boat" and that's the closest surname I could get to sound like my real surname.

"Bi Ming" is the given name. "Bi" or "Pi" means a "pen". "Ming" means "name". So "Bi Ming" is a "pseudonym" or a "pen name"... implicitly denoting a person's another name. Generally, I picked it because aside from it being my "other name", "Bi" sounds like Obi so konek pa din. Hehe. Pinilit.

For extra note too, this name was of Mandarin origins. Madami pa kasing dialects ang mga Chinese and most used dito sa Pinas ay yung Fuokien (tama ba spelling??). If you have a Chinese friend here, that's what they most likely use to speak Chinese. Another dialect that I do have some ideas about too is Cantonese, which is in major use in Hong Kong.

About sa encryption ng Chinese characters, the letters above was written using the Traditional Chinese methodology. May general shorthand method kasi which is the Simplified Chinese. Hindi ako ang gumawa niyan (gamit ko yang avatar sa YM ngayon)... salamat Ces! Xie xie peng you!
