Drag Race

Sunday. I excitedly rushed to Roxas Blvd to meet with da Bozz and the 7.5th Shak brother. Finally, I was able to find time to go sailing with them. Madadagdagan na naman ang adventuring resume ko. Bozz Beef has been inviting me to sail with him since last year (I think) but as much as I wanted to, prior activities kept on pouring in my sched. Buti na lang, walang airsoft game last Sunday!

Still, to commemorate that it was supposed to be an "airsoft Sunday", I wore my shemagh, the Classic Army shirt (that I often use in playing), and a military green cap with our Team SBB insignia. Parang hindi sailing ang pupuntahan ko. Hehe.

11:20AM na kami nakarating ng Manila Yacht Club. 11:00AM ang usapan. Probably, t'was based on Gelo's ork time kaya nagmamadali na kami nung dumating kami sa MYC. There we met Lou, then the rest of the crew of "Challenge" - the yacht we've sailed on. We were 14 in all aboard the sailboat. Two races to compete on that day... first was a circuit race around Manila Bay and the second one was a point-to-point "drag race".

The "Challenge"...

11:31AM. "Challenge" set sail. Gelo busied himself briefing us, newbies, about onboard safety protocols. The weather was fine and the sun was up just enough not to sear too much. However, several minutes later into the race, rain poured into the bay, creating waves and winds that tossed the yachts about. I know that was nothing in comparison to those I've experienced in boat rides I've had in the past, but still the experience was exhilarating. The crew of "Challenge" laboured like a clockwork device knowing each other's designated duties. Jargons flew here and there. Gusto ko matutunan lahat yun... but for the day, "grinding" was enough.

Ron, Bozz Beef, Abu Obi

I had the chance to run aft and "grind" a lever for Ron who controlled the ropes for the main sail (?) - I guess. All in all, the ride was fun. May time na mainit, tas bigla na namang uulan... tas biglang mawawalan ng hangin, then the yacht would seem to stall. Dapat alam mo kung ano ang gagawin sa pabago-bagong scenarios, else maiiwanan ka sa karera. Galing.

"Challenge" docked at around 4PM. Huddle up at the MYC bar ensued. The crew of the sailboat are a bunch of cool people. It has been nice hangin out with them. Nag pataob kami ng dalawang bote ng Johnnie Walker (...and I'm not a "hard" drinker!). Kaya ayun, bangenge akong umuwi ng bahay with a nasty hangover the next day.

I'm looking forward for the next time we set sail. Arr!
