The Gas Chamber Experience

We finally were able to push through with the band's jam session yesterday at Makati Cinema Square and though our execution was mediocre, I'm sure that the fact that the place is crap tells a lot about what happened.

Rant follows.

1. Soooobrang init sa loob.
- Nagbutil butil ang pawis namin sa pagtugtog. Gusto ko sana mag hubad pero kakapit ang pawis ko sa bass guitar... and that a far window was open to public. Not that iL mind it much being watched. Mas maangas nga topless... sans the dreaded BILBIL! Haha.

2. Olats ang instruments.
- The amps have been a pain. Talo sa feedback at noise reduction. Yung bass guitar nila ansakit sa kamay. Sobrang kapal ng kalawang sa #4 and #2 strings, that I still can't feel a fingertip until now! Peksman. And since I'm a thumb player as opposed to most traditional bass players, kinalyo yung hinlalaki ko. I can't even play my rifts well. Kasi imbes na mag slide ako or hammer, the uber thick rust muted the strings enough not to permit such techniques! Ok pa din naman daw ang kinalabasan sabi ni Mike. Carry.

3. Pangit ang acoustics ng room.
- Walang noise reduction yung room.

4. Luma na yung mga gamit.
- The mic was taped on the stand. Drums was next to dilapidated. Amps were functioning below standard.

our side (me & mike)

We did enjoy though. Simply because we were able to play again outside our own separate bands and genres. Parang bata ulit kaming apat na starting to babystep our way into forming a band. Exciting kasi bumuo ng banda in contrast to playing in a band where you've been into for a long time na. Andyang pinag-uusapan ulit kung ano yung mga tutugtugin tsaka paano ang approach... basically, brainstorming ideas.

In short, napag tiisan na yung lugar. But for sure, di na kami babalik dun. We've been considering other venues already. We only stayed for an hour playing renders of "Tatsulok" by Bamboo, "High" by the Speaks, and Kamikaze's "Narda". Wala pa kaming band name but after Arnie jokingly asked when are we going to rent the "Gas Chamber" again (pertaining to the MCS music room), we were thinking "Gas Chamber Experience" is a catchy name.

their side (johann & arnie)

I'll buy my own bass guitar soon but a friend who was a bassist for a defunct show-band told me to borrow his bass guitar first so just I could sample the brand. We'll see.

The band: Johann on the mic, Arnie on strings, Obi on thicker strings, and Mike on drumsticks. We're looking to fill the other guitarist slot.

*****

Commercial: I just came in from an applicant's technical interview. She's soooo cute. But soooo unavailable too! Married. Argh. All the nice ladies in the world were either taken or misogamist. Kakapanood ng "Sex in the City" or "Desperate Housewives" siguro, hahaha!

I guess her husband's name is Jack... short for, Jackpot. Hahaha. Muntik ko nang itanong... "may younger sister ka?" (she's older than me) o kaya naman, "alam mo ba yung kasabihang 'Mas madaling mahuli ang nakataling manok?". Nyahaha!

Wag ganun. Joke lang ha.

Back to work!
