Extra sa Pelipula

I'm supporting a friend's movie which was chosen as an entry for the upcoming Cinema One Originals Indie Film Fest. I'm damn proud of this dude just because he beat me into having his script be filmed. It has always been my dream to do exactly that.

Grasshopper day, me too! (Balang araw, ako din!)

Me and a couple of friends travelled with the crew to Ilocos to help with the shoot before stopping in Pagudpod for a wrap. We were even asked to be extras on one of the scenes. I can't wait to see that part... laughtrip!

An email from our apostolate...

HELLO Singles!

It's THAT time again!

SE14 would like to announce that the application for the upcoming SINGLES ENCOUNTER # 15 has OFFICIALLY started.

Woohoo!!! :-)

Calling ALL single, baptized Catholics, at least 22 years old to join the SE WEEKEND # 15 on December 5-7, 2008 at the Angel's Hills Retreat House. Please help us find 65 men and women to take part in this Weekend and experience God's Love.

So what are YOU waiting for?

Invite your friends, family, officemates and classmates to take part in the next SE Weekend.

Thank you and God bless!

Yours in Christ,
SE 14

*****

FAQ's I get when I invite people to join:

* So what does this SE basically means?

I'll start with an introduction of the group involved behind this "encounter", the Singles Apostolate.

The Singles Apostolate is a church community of single Catholics gathered together to promote spiritual growth and living the word of God. Our parish is located on St. James the Great in Ayala Alabang Village and the apostolate itself operates under a bigger community which is the St. James the Great Renewal Movement (SJRM).

The Singles Encounter (SE) Weekend is a more or less biannual retreat (happens every 6 months to be exact). Here, we usher in new members of the apostolate by guiding them to their own journey towards God and sharing them the unique experience of having a deeper relationship with Him... an experience we, the members of the apostolate, had brought in our lives since attending our own Singles Encounter Weekends.

I and the rest of the class of SE14 (that's batch 14 of the Singles Encounter) were the new additions to the SA family and the latest to participate on an SE Weekend which was just last May this year. To pay it forward, we in turn will be the intercessory class for the incoming singles of the SE15. It basically means we'll be spearheading the organization (physical and spiritual) of the entire upcoming Weekend retreat with the help of our brothers and sisters from the higher classes (from SE1 to our KUYAs and ATEs in SE13). Walang papalag sa KUYA at ATE. Haha!

SE14 with our KOYA and ATI from SE13. Thanksgiving Party.

* So what did you get joining the apostolate?

A LOT that I don't know where to start! Thing is, it's not a question of what did I GET but more of what did I have to GIVE to receive such things. Medyo nakakalito but hope this explains it...

Like most of my batchmates prior to the SE Weekend, I don't really have a clear purpose of joining the retreat. For sure, most of us would know what to expect and take it lightly as just-another-retreat like what we had in highschool or college. Some might just need some peace-time or reflect on stuffs. Me, being me, just want to have an extra activity to add to my lakwatsa events back then and just "TRY" it.

Before SE, I was not a regular church-goer and my relationship with God is mediocre... a very typical Catholic thing if you think about it. I pray at night. I believe in the bible and the sacraments and the Saints and their deeds at the most basic level. I may knew that there's more to it than doing the sign of the cross or just attending the mass but it's either I don't want to explore more or I don't have the time to.

SE14 on our own Weekend last May in Tagaytay

After the Weekend and after all the activities we did in the community, the apostolate showed me the significance of what I fondly call an "spiritual investment". It's a spiritual growth that you just don't harvest on a single worship or reap fully out of doing nothing but the most menial of Catholic duties. It's something of giving to Christ what is due to Him from your attention and then receiving His graces as a more worthy YOU in return. Yung hindi panay kabig lang.

It's striving to be worthy to receive Him in your life. It's never an easy process especially us being sinners. We don't have to be hypocrites. Let's accept it... we're all not worthy. BUT it doesn't mean that we have no choice and just leave it at that. We just have to seek HIM. And that's what the apostolate has been helping me to do.

*****

* Is it all THAT boring?

Far from it. Faaar from it.

I, alone, has easily doubled my activity schedules ever since joining the apostolate. Yes, we do a lot of prayer meetings and other spiritual activities that you might as easily swear as "boring" (I myself find it as such before, but what's interesting is that it "got" into me just as quickly when I opened myself to the Lord. Nasasakyan ko na ngayon how others would talk about God with utmost enthusiasm and don't feel uneasy with it. But of course I don't want to spoonfeed describing how it feels. I want YOU to experience it yourselves!).

Our first Night Out as a class (Starbucks - Madrigal)

However, these are not all that we do. The SA fellowship team has a LOT of cool activities in store for the members of the community. For the last six months alone, we did an "Amazing Race"-style team building activity on Enchanted Kingdom and shot our own short indie movie films for the halloween celebration. This is not to include our numerous class excursions and services like holding the latest Thanksgiving Party for the community and sponsoring the recent premier showing of the Spielberg movie "Eagle Eye".

Team Red with kids from Gawad Kalinga (SA Amazing Race 2008)

The apostolate is pretty much dynamic on balancing between spiritual and R&R activities which is ALL fun!

*****

* How it goes again?

Singles of at least 22 years old and are Catholics are invited to join a retreat at Angels' Hills, Tagaytay on December 5-7, 2008.

We're looking at filling up 65 available slots which are broken down into 30+ candidates who are residents of Ayala Alabang, 20+ candidates coming from the Muntinlupa-Parañaque-Las Piñas area, and 10+ candidates living anywhere else in the metro.

Application forms are now available from me or I will have to direct you to our Secretariat Team. The retreat fee, which is inclusive of food, lodging, and miscellaneous stuffs you'll need on the event, is PHP2,200.

We'll see you there!

Jump the Bandwagon

Once again, it's that time of the year where coffee drinkers become coffee addicts and those who are not become wannabes... all for the most sought-after collection of bound papers in the metro since Funny Komiks!

Starbucks launched their annual Christmas Traditions last November 4. It's basically "drink a number of coffee cups to get a spunky planner" promo for those who don't give a damn. I was able to get some insider scoop prior to the launch from Pinsan Idol's friend baristas and my own's personal barista koneksyons regarding the whatnots about the promo this year...

1) One of the featured beverage is a Dark Cherry concoction.
2) The planner comes in different colors.
3) The number of stickers to complete will be lessened compare to last year's (this stickers mark the number of how many more hundred bucks you have to burn to get the much coveted planner).

It used to be a charity drive for Starbucks' pet projects but this year I can't see anything on the cardlet (this is where they put the stickers) that refers to them getting an eenie weenie part of the money you burned for the inflated coffee and giving them to charity (as it was last year). Maybe let's just assume that that is the case.

As it was, I went to the nearest Istarbuko branch here in the office (hindi ko sasabihing sa Old Greenbelt branch) last Tuesday and burned my first few bills for my first sticker. As expected, the barista kudosed (not a word) my Starbucks tumbler. That tumbler never fails to get attention.

It was one of those few tumblers that never hit the Starbucks display ledge because everybody with barista koneksyons have it already reserved (and sometimes even paid!) even before that particular design arrives at the branches. AND rarely it does. Maybe they limited the distribution in purpose. I have no idea.

It looks like their typical transparent Grande sized plastic cup only that it's a tumbler. It looks really mediocre if you ask me, maybe it's just cool because of its rarity. There's this one time (in bandcamp... haha) a pretty chick was ogling at it when the barista handed the cup to me. Got a good convo there because of it.

Mental note: take a pic of the damned tumbler.

Anyway highway, I'm on my 4th sticker. 12 more cups and a couple of palpitations more to go and I can grab home a damn planner! Wipee! The planner this year was actually "recessionized" (not a word)... that was as if affected by the American recession. It pales a LOT in comparison to the earlier planners of this Starbucks racket. But it's me. I heard some people already who readily swears it's pretty. Plastik! Haha.

Anyway, relax... drink a coffee. Happy weekends!

*****

Addendum: Finished reading "Sandworms of Dune" by Herbert Junior and Kev Anderson that day I first got a Starbucks cardlet. The book is second of a duology written by the authors as conclusion to the original Dune saga (all 6 books) created by Frank Herbert. I'm moving on to my next read... "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Jesus".

Making Love Out of Nothing at All

There's this koreanovela that my Mom's hooked into lately sa Kapuso network, "My Husband's Woman".

It's a story of a cheating husband. So to speak, we (my Mom, especially... since we don't give much attention to the series) can kind of relate to the matters of conflict of the soap. Our family being at almost the same situation.

Whenever something about cheating was being talked about on the dialogues, there'll be a point where my Mom would exclaim jokingly "KOREK!". It was fun. At least, we all have fun... me, the mom, and my sibs.

May pinauso nga ako actually na inuunahan na namin si Mami whenever such cheesy lines would come up, we all yell "KOREEEK!" ahead of her. Laugh trip.

It's cool to realize how we carried on with our lives as normal as we could and be on a situation that we just laugh about this miserable lot. It's cool how we all matured to accept that fact not because it's acceptable or we have no choice (hell NO) but because we just leave it up to the Lord to settle things and do His own terms to deal with it.

Ang mahalaga (at least para sa akin) ay nagagawa naming magpaka-saya.

*****

Speaking of saya...

With my transition to lead a new project here at work and the gynormous responsibilities that came with it plus the advent of the preparations for the SE15 Weekend plus etcetera etcetera etcetera... I decided to spend a different kind of "break" and did a Halloween weekend with the family.

So with my mommy groovey, tita, bro, sis and her twins, we hit the mall for some R&R! We passed by our granny's house along the way and my Lola was playfully patting at my tummy, kinakantyawan ako dahil ngayon na lang daw ako nagpakita. I was surprised, myself, when I tried to recall when was the last time I visited the gramps. Antagal na pala talaga. I need to rearrange my sched and drop the couple some quality time again.

At the mall, the wonder twins had so much fun. They din't have any tantrums and were so behaved all the time. I'll sure miss them when they migrate to Sydney next year.
