Holiday Season Mission

I din't get any luckier with my Christmas wishes this year than the last one but at least I got the spirit of it in check. Top of the wishlist was of course to spend some time with those people specially close to my heart during my so-called "Christmas week". Kada taon kasi, I see to it that I at least have a week long off from work during the holiday season and make sure that during this well-worth vacation, I would look inside me and count my blessings via those people whom God allowed to cross my path and touch me on a special way.

Haha... pangit pakinggan no? "Touch" me. Parang ni-rape. "Touch my life" na nga lang.

First off... the friends!
Still, I was able to elbow some time with most of them (if not all *lunkot*). As I've posted earlier, I went out with my friends here in the office for Krokodile Grille - Greenbelt before the workweek ended. Prior that night, I was able to hangout with my friends from my previous work in HP. Wacha (Green Lantern of our HP tropa, dubbed "Justice League-HP") was there to borrow my ubiquitous bumblebee visors. The last time I was with these guys was like three weeks ago (?) when Oh (of Justice League-HP Bangkok??) was here in Manila. We were not able to meet her for some reason but we just hang out ourselves in Gilligan's... me, DD, Kid, Jzent, and Man. However, this Christmas, the guys were sporadically dispersed elsewhere so the chance of huddling up for some impromptu Christmas gathering (like what we used to do on the Rob Summit veranda) was impossible. Dan the Flash and Ayn the "Girl faster than the Flash" have a gift for me and it's still with Angel. Much appreciation from the Bat Man!

My bro and sistah from college, Jon and Star had their son christened on the 23rd. I already have my gift for the cutey kid but unfortunately I wasn't able to come. Isusunod ko na lang bro. Jay was not there too... and of course Bo, who was already on his first year in Canada. Si Ayo lang nakapunta, of course. I missed these guys. I knew back on our college heydays that our stoic inseparability will ultimately take a different course as "life after college" kicks in but at least the solidarity's still there. Even our yearly traditional fiesta attack in Tagaytay finally came to a close.

Last Christmas, the denizens of da Shak (my orky sporemates) celebrated yet another traditional Christmas Leftover Party at where else, our raggedy tambayan - Da Shak (duh)! During the last year and so, in spite of its relative distance from home, this hobby haven at Kamias had been my abode of retreat when I want to de-stress, momentarily escape from the harsh realities of life, or just plain goof around. Pero kapag gusto ko din ng smackdown reality-check thrown right into my face, these orkz would gladly do it for me... una unahan pa! That's how true these dudes are. People made of polyester are strictly prohibited around the premise or will simply be mugged down to oblivion.

Da Denizens of Da Shak

All of em are my hobby buddies, scale modellers of (i could say) the best calibers in the Philippines! Almost all of them are gamers too (from card games, PC games, to airsoft!) so we're on the same wavelength.

Going back to the Leftover Party, I arrived at around 7pm with the boyz huddled up on a PSP, playing Worms Armaggedon on multiplayer while Junbo was busy himself playing some strategy game on his laptop. So, I pulled out my own modelling box and worked on assemblying my miniature fig while waiting for more Shak Boyz to trickle in.

Attendance: Pork, Junbo, Little John, Johnny, Asshole Ian + Kids, Kuneho Ian, Phatboy Jason, Topher, Doc Marco, Fred Laki, Chilly Arvin, Garrboy, Jake Pookiemonster, Emp Kamote + GF, Plim, Fluffy, Katrina Halili

Grub: Care Care, Sinigaang Tilapia, Cox (lotsa them holy liniment!), Balot and Penoy in Kolesterol Sauce!, Naglalakad na Johnny (hik!), Kropeks

Chilly Arv's Balot and Penoy in Kolesterol Sauce... magnifico!

Lamentations when someone reported about the death of Golden Boy's father just two days ago. Poor kid (although being the solo heir to their businesseseses, he's now tetrazillion times richer). Condolences man.

Some talks about Sigi's wedding too. Pork, Arvs, Romy, and Fluffy were there. Again, I wasn't able to come but the invite was so so appreciated. Congrats, man! Sabi nga ni God, "Humayo kayo't magpakarami!"

That's my favorite spot right thurr... right undah my goddess, Katrina Halili...

Finally, I succumbed to the craze, playing my own team on Worms Armageddon - the Mad Doctors! This resulted on a final head to head against Junbo's Marines but alas, the Chew-baka proved himself combat worthy once again and annihilated my worms piecemeal! Ouch.

Next stop... the relatives!
Tito Joel and family drove all the way down from Pangasinan to spend their Christmas here in the hometown!

It was on the 23rd when we braved the pre-Christmas traffic to charge SM - Mall of Asia. Andaaaaaaming tao!!! I have earlier planned to visit Ly on the mountainous regions of QC North but the relatives were too persistent on confirming my attendance. Sadness. *grumble grumble*

Anyway, just to capitalize on the time, I instantaneously wrote a list of peeps to give presents to, then scrounged the gigantic mall for anything worth giving. Nakarami naman ako kahit pano. I myself bought some stuffs for me-self. *happy*

This year, as tradional, most of my aunts and uncles spend their Christmas at the old family house with lolo and lola. Sadly though, one uncle is in Vegas while another have chosen to spend some quality time with his family this year. Still, the attendance was considerably ample (our lineage was never outnumbered.. hehe)

Mommy Groovy, Leo Starstruck, Ankol Boy

Ongapala. Before going to the grannies' house, me, Mommy, and my sibs attended the mass first. Lola was one of the groups that do ministry works on our church. As if on cue, after the mass, there was a call on my mobile phone. "Call" lang nakalagay so I knew it was overseas... si Bonita (Rachelle)! It was so thoughtful of her to call. She's a very very good friend from my gradeschool days and although they moved to New York before we reached highschool, we're still occasionally in contact and we've been hanging out with our gradeschool friends everytime she goes back here in Phils (although the last time was like six years ago!). Crush ko siya back on our weeny gradeschool days because she was one of them pretty but tough damsels around the school. I was new on that elementary in Batangas back then being newly transferred from Manila and she was one of the first seatmates I've got to befriend. Sabi nya on one of our conversations years after gradeschool na crush nya din ako noon. But until now I preferred not to believe or assume that. Haha. Dope! Hahaha. But yeah, those were probably just laughing matters for us now. She will always be a good friend to me now. Thanks sa call, Bonita! Happy New Year and extend my greets to everyone there too... to Tita, Tito, Ava, and Toto!

Back to our family Christmas gathering...

Ilang sa mga miyembro ng Tribong Espiritu

Attendance: Mommy Groovy, Son Obi, Son Sponklong, Bon bon, Cheng, Badong, Wonder Twins Lei and Liz, Tiyo Joel, Tiya Jojie, Tatin Agi, Jian, Tiyo Boy, Tiya Betya, Bogard + Tina, Bateng, Kendeng, LJ + Stef, Klong Klong Chloe, Ashtie Grasya, Lola Groovy, Johnny Tango

Grub: Sisig!, Pata ni Tim, Sari saring Inihaw!, Sari saring Salad, Baked Mac, Graham, Molo Sopas, Lecheng Plan, Sari saring Pinirito, Ham and Chees Rolls, Pansit, Dinuguang Isaw! (oh boy they really know me!!!), marami pang iba...

So, we distributed our personal gifts and prior to that, started our clan's Kris Kringle. Si JC ang nakabunot sa kin, and gave me this Starbucks espresso shotmug (kung ano man tawag dun). Salamats!

Malamang next year na, to include the New Year pics too!

I've been quite the homeboy too when the holiday break started. Tambay lang ako with Mommy Groovy, Bons, Long, Badong, Cheng and the Twins almost everyday! I was able to finish reading yet another Starwars book "The Joiner King, Dark Nest Trilogy" and started reading this Dune book "The Battle of Corrin". Haha. I'll have time soon, hopefully. Also, I continued working on my miniatures. Spray painting primer black on 22 miniature figs, painted details on one Assault Marines, and as earlier mentioned, assembled one more mini at the Shak.

Goliath - zero
Super Twins - two

Hmm... ano pa ba?

I should remind myself to hang out at Tiya Nine's condo again before New Year. They've always been a welcoming extended family to me this year as was during my post-college heydays. I also tried to contact their ampon Batgirl but to no avail. Sadness. Apparently, kasama siya sa list of special people ko. Spending a while with her around this season (in fact, anytime) should be a treat, something to keep my spirits high for an astig na year-ender sana. With matching kilig kilig pa, oh walang papalag.

Funny how when circumstances gradually trained me to yield to insensitivity, Fate will have his own devious way of pitching me back to the ultimate reality that I can still "feel".

Yaaaaan ang hirit! Haha. Seriously though, more often than not, it only leads me clueless on what to do next. Bahala na.

Ano pa ba?

As of writing this thing down, Jay just contacted me if we could go to Jon's this night sa Marilao. Sabi ko kung mahihintay nya ko after work, why not.

To wrap up my list!
On my Christmas week...
I was able to spend time with:
*joyness*
- former HP officemates
- family
- most relatives
- Shak Boyz
- some of the SBB's
- current officemates
- talks with Bonita
- God

I wasn't able to spend time with:
*sadness*
- college tropa
- Joseph and Tan, my kababata brothers
- Tita Nine and family + Batgirl
- Justice League - HP
- Jai, HS tropa

Happy New Year sa lahat!! Tagay na... haha!! Have a safe one, mga dudes.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Krikey!
Most of us here in the office were already on vacation leave. With that, yesterday we decided to end the "office season" together on a humble (pero gapang sa busog) dinner at Krokodile Grille in Greenbelt 3.

We part ways at around 10am. Me and some of the guys huddled up somewhere to continue the fun. Went home at 3am. Get my arse here in the office at 10am, with barely 4 hours of sleep. Ayus!

Here in the office alone, I got like 8 presents already, piled up on my desk. Wooot! I love presents! Salamats salamats sa inyo!! Bawi ako pag balik ko from my New Year's leave.

Wordsmith!
Was looking at the ceiling this morning, taking a break... a moment to contemplate on the things that had been, then I remembered this literary text (that deserves a re-post, really)...

A Letter To the One that God has Prepared For Me
Anonymous

I am wondering at this very minute if you are thinking of me, if like me, you are wondering what is taking us so long to find each other. Many times I thought I finally found you only to be disillusioned by the fact that my wait has not yet ended. I get up each morning hoping, dreaming, longing to meet you.

I am thinking of how we will meet, would it be as romantic as the ones I have seen in movies? Or is it possible that I have known you all my life but we have yet to realize that we are meant for each other? Oh how I wish you were here right now because you are the only one who has the answers to all my questions.

Sometimes I ask myself if I have ever really known "love". I do not have the answer to that question either but I believe that, more often than not, we will never really know what love is until we find that right person.... and since I have not found you yet, then maybe I do not really know what love is!

You just don't know how often I dream of finally knowing what it feels like to be in your arms. Even at this very moment I am imagining how you will simply sweep me off my feet! Perhaps I would be drawn to you by your smile, or your eyes, or maybe even how you manage to make me laugh by your silly little ways!

I don't really know for sure but I am praying that God will help me recognize you when the right time comes. I think of all the pain that I have gone through in the past and of how much I have cried since the day I began my search. I just wanted you to know that I find my strength in clinging onto my vision of the beautiful life ahead of me --- the life I shall spend with you. In my mind and in my heart I know that you are worth all that pain and sacrifice.

After all, the tears have become a part of my life and I believe that they are slowly washing away my flaws so that I would become perfect, not perfect in its truest sense, but perfect --- for YOU! I wonder if you've gone through so much pain as well. I wonder if you've been hurt so many times along the journey.

But my dearest one, please don't ever give up because I am right here... patiently waiting for you! I assure you that when we finally find each other I would slowly heal those wounds by my love.

At night, I would look out my window and stare at the beautiful sky, hoping that somehow you are also looking up and wondering about me. I utter a silent prayer and send all my cries to the heavens above thinking that in time they would reach you. And when I feel impatient, I just close my eyes and believe that you are on your way and that you are longing to see me as well. It is funny but when I finally fall asleep, it is still you that I think of, for you are always in my dreams. It seems that, for now, that is the only place where I can hold on to you, long enough to
tell you how much I love you. In my dreams you would kiss away my fears and wrap me with your arms of love.

And this, all the more, makes me want to wake up and face the new day ahead with the hope that soon enough, you will no longer be a dream but a reality and once again I am assured that you are worth the wait. And when that time comes, everything will fall into its place, just as I had imagined, just as I had thought and dreamed, just as I had believed it would be! By then, I would simply look back and smile at all that I have gone through, in spite of the pain and amidst the simple joys of life --- and I would be very thankful because they all led me to you!

In the meantime, take care of yourself for me. Hold on to our dream and don't even think of letting go. Believe in your heart that we will find each other no matter what happens. God has planned the course and it is up to us to follow the directions. Don't worry, don't be afraid about getting lost, God saw to it that all the roads, no matter which one you choose to follow, lead to me.

***************

Grabe. Everytime I remember this piece it never fails to touch me... to incite a jittery feeling inside in a beautiful way. Parang may butterflies sa paligid habang naglalakad ako sa rainbow at hinahangin-hangin ang buhok ko (kahit kalbo ako) parang effects sa pelikula. If there's one thing in my stint as a creative writer that I wished I've written, eto yun men. Todo na.

So ayun. With inspiration stirring up my medulla oblongata, sinubukan ko din mag isip. Healthy naman mag isip kahit paminsan minsan e. Hehe. Seriously, that's why I badly need a pen and paper always handy (one reason I always have a backpack with me aaaaanywhere I go), inspiration strikes in the most awkward of places. Like here, like now... so I tried brainstorming and patched up the ideas on a free verse. Eto kinalabasan... corny, haha!

*****************

"Hirap"
by: Obi

yung totoo kong nararamdaman.

hirap...

naiisip mo yung totoo kong ibig sabihin
na bukod sa message na pinadala
may pahiwatig yun na...

"naaalala kita"

"gusto kita makasama"

"sana andito ka"

dahil ikaw lang ngayon ang ngiti ko,
dahil ikaw lang hanap ng puso ko.
ang corny pero hindi, kapag para sayo.
ganyan men, ang tama ko.

matagal ko na gustong sabihin sayo,
pero mahirap...

baka sa ikatlong bulaklak.

*****

Hope you liked it.

Merry Christmas sa lahat and have a meaningful celebration! Hehe.

Joyness

In case you din't notice, I have this habit of stealing glances at you. See, the heart hides what you can't say but the eyes say what the heart tries to hide.
- Obi (YM Status, December 20 2006)

Mallex Christmas Party 2006

I wasn't expecting that Tiya Nine's birthday will coincide with her enterprise's Christmas party. Akala ko lumabas lang sila sa Hap Chan for a dinner last night kaya dun ako pinasusunod at hindi sa condo. Di ko rin akalaing pupunta si Lyness. Sayang. Sana inagahan ko ng pasok para maaga rin nakatambay with her kela Tita... may pasok pa kasi siya last night. Olats.

The Family + Ampon
L-R: Aeron Boy, Tiya Nine, Idol Kim, Lytet

Anyway, I was able to scram off the office around 6pm. On the way, tumawag ako kela idol Ains para magpaturo ng direksyon. Loud speaker syempre. Lakas tama, man.

Tas yun, I arrived at the place past 7pm na tas gadaming karakter. Parlor games followed right away.

Panalo kami! As in!
Prize 'to dun sa Calamansi Race.

Grub: breaded pusit, fish pilit, pata ni tim, pritong chikkin, beef broccoli in saucy sauce, colorful rice, tinapay na intsik, saint michael's brew, pepsikola

Tas putukan lang ng lobo against other duos yung laban. Haha.

Koya Ube... and the Violet Balloon

Tas ano pa ba?

Ayun! E di bibo ako syempre. Kumanta ako ng "All My Life" ("All My Ly"... yikeee!). Haha. Normally, sa climax part pa nung song! Ganun na ganun yung dating, man. Nyahaha. In fairness, kiligness ako! Tae na tae hehe. Peksman.

Take note, galing kaming Roxas Boulevard. Lapit lang. Panis.

Tas yun nanlibre siya sa Istarbuko. Angas. Hehe.

Post na lang akong pics for posterity if ever iL get a hand on em sometime soon.

Inlab ang kumag. Ahuhuy! In fairness, mukang siyang naligo. Naligo kaya siya? Hahaha.

Mga ngiting trademark. (Bagay naman di ba? Hehe. Asa.)

Kung bagay, vote na! Type TAEKA [space] OBI [space] punctuation mark of your choice, and send to 233 for SMART and Sun Cel subscribers or 2334 for Globe or Talk n Text subscribers. Malay nyo, lumakas na loob ko! Haha.

Addendum: Mystery of the Violet Balloon (Posted: December 21, 2006)
Ayyy olats! Isang araw din akong mukang galing Christmas Party dahil dito ah. Najo-jologs-an tuloy ako sa sarili ko. Kung may salita mang ganun. Hehe. Period. Bugnot. Haha.

Kung Anik Anik

SST Christmas Party 2006
It was a spunky night for the company. It was sort of the "same old Christmas" party that I expected but it was fun nonetheless. The nominated theme was "rock and roll" and although I contributed much on the interior design of the location, I wasn't able to help em set the place up until the last hours of the preparations.

Anyway, here's what happened (that involves me) at a glance:
Group Performance Contest - the employees were divided into several groups and each was required to present any stage performance. Our group arranged a comic medley ala interpretative dance, which we did quite literally kaya mukang tanga talaga kami... but that was the point of the comedy. In fact, we won the top prize for it. Napaghatian na namin yung cash prize. Kahapon pa. Hehe.

I won a minor prize and that was it.

Parlor Games - we were again separated into groups and pitted into various challenges. There was this game that required us to relay a word by writing it on our teammates' back... using our elbow! We won that one. The words were "Scorpions" and "Metallica". We also tried our luck on that Eat Bulaga game. I forgot what it's called but we have to assist a teammate on guessing the word attached on his forehead by only answering his questions with "Yes" or "No". Basta, panalo din kami dun. The winning words were "jacket" and "bamboo".

Rock Absolutely!

Exchange Gifts - I got a Freestyle Live @ 19 East CD and this fancy picture frame. The CD's worth it. Nothing original from the group (as expected after their lead singer's going solo) but all the revivals were given justice. Angas pa rin ng Freestyle.

Awards - Awards were given for the recently held sportsfest. Syempre, I got one for being the Best Male Bowler of this year. Angas.

Have to bring my electric guitar back home yesterday. I rarely use em now at home. Pag trip trip na lang.

Islaman lang... walang sakitan.
L-R: Hadjji, Obs, Buttercup the Guitar, Dens

More Birthday Basher
In behalf of Tribong Parcon...

Happy Birthday Tita Nine!!!

I wish more success to your Mallex for the coming years!!
(Punta ako sa inyo mamya!)

World Bazaar Expo 2006
World Trade Center last Saturday, where over 500 tiangge stalls were setup as a part of some "tiangge for a cause" movement. Entrance was at 25 bucks and the following day after that (Sunday) was their last exhibit so the place was literally pouring with people.

Wooot! It's the season of food once again, matagal na ako natigil magbasketball at mag airsoft kaya medyo tumataba uli ako. Hehe. There was this sisig stand there na nakanamputsa sa sarap ang sisig! I also had sausage, burger, rice-in-a-box, at palamig.

Attendance that day: Obi Doo, Badong, Cheng, Sponklong, Mommy Groovy, Tiya Grasya, Wonder Twins, Bon Bon

Dinner that night was at Ho Tsin Ho (?) near the Domestic Airport.

DOTA Addictus
Sunday, sugod naman kami ng Glorietta.

DOTA kami ni Sponklong habang gala to the max si Bon at Mommy Groovy.

Dinner that night was at Food Choices G4.

Awww... sadness

Kwentong Tambay

I think we dream so we don't have to be apart so long.
- Obi (YM Status, December 4 - 12 2006)

"Take out" kami. Hindi "To go". Mas uso kasi sa lugawan dun sa may amin yung salitang "take out".

Tas binitbit namin yung kape sa Tokyo Tokyo. Gusto namin dun. Nyahahaha.

O.A. na.

E kaso sandamakmak yung tao. Hahaha. So hakbang kami sa kabilang tindahan - Oody's.

Grub: Sinabawang Squidballs, Barbeque ng Duwende, Lumpyang Ewan in Orange Sauce, Kanin ni Jasmine, Tsaang Hindi

In fairness, lumantak ako ng isa't kalhating kanin.

Bahista ako nung highschool (several thousand years ago). *Ubo ubo* Excuse me pow!

After nang paghahari't reyna nila, magsusulputan uli sila Ja Rule tsaka sila Moh Shizzle, Fah Zizzle Yaw... Snoop Dawg!

Martes de Bola
Wala namang bago ngayon. Papasok na si Ly ng pang-gabi. Kaaburido. Makakatambay pa kaya ulit kami?

Kalungkutan.

Kasiyahan.

The Good, The Bad, and The Grannies

The Good

Second Placers (Black Team)
L-R: Jack Black (syempre violet na bola), Cha Cha Cha, Eyryel, Ranger Roy (not in pic: Ghe Ghe Ghe)

Silat na naman kami sa kampyonado. My Black Team only placed second after the last night's tenpin games. I, myself, have to concede that I could have played better, scoring only 112 and 106 on two rounds. Not bad, really. But I was supposed to average at least 120 a game. Bente puntos lang lamang samin ng mga champs, so if ever I played consistently baka may chance pa sana kami.

Obvious bang hindi stolen??

Uh well. May individual award nako e for bagging the best male bowler sa eliminations. Brag brag brag. Sulit na! Kudos to the Black Team!! Bawi tayo next tourney, mga repapips!

Etong bago... reverse shot!

The Bad
Badtrip kasi kahapon.

Alam mo yung Murphy's Law? If anything could go wrong, it will!

Ayun, ganun. Badtrip. Saktong one hour sila nakatambay, saktong one hour tumakbo yung meeting namin.

As in. Si idol pinsan na lang andun nakatambay. Sayang talaga. Olats.

Hahaha. OA.

By the way highway, 11 stamps to go... magkaka-Planner na ko ng Starbucks! Yiheeee!

Attendace: Dens, Lizette, Mike M. + wife, Mike L., Nors, MJ, Jane, Big John, Karen, Glen, Ako, Chris, Yuki, Koya Jeff, Ariel, dumaan si Kix, dumaan si Mark, Myce

Grub: Tapang Ostrich, Kolesterol Pata, Giant Pusit (Daw), Kanin, Kaning Prito, Sandamakmak na Sisig, Nilagang Baka, Laing Express, Walang Awat na Tsaang Malamig, Serbesa, Tinadtad na Manggang Hilaw

Ilalabas nyo pagkain o titinidurin ko kayong lahat?!?!

Yiheeee!

Birthday Bashers

Happy Birthday LY!

Stay astig... I hope you find happiness on everything you do because there's nothing more gratifying than to see someone you care for with that reassuring smile on her face. You're being missed... sana makatambay pa rin tayo minsan.

Happy Birthday Aeron!

Aeron booooy! Keep the SMS's coming! Hehe... and good luck sa Board Review... wag ka mag leakage. Haha.
