Daisy Otso

The debut party was fun. Most of our relatives that I wanted to see when I got back from Sydney was there.

Despite the nature of how hastily everything was set up, it still turned up fairly organized.

:D

Highlights:

The "idol" strikes back... si Aina at ang classic na "JAPAN - Just Always Pray At Night" 18 Candles speech nya.

:D

We got three pairs of twins that night: pamankin kong twins, at yung dalwang pares ng twin cousins ko from my dad's side and my mom's side. We have a dominant twin gene. May isa pa kaming pares ng twin from my dad's side, it's one of his cousins but one of them is in the States.

:D

My inaanak slash pamankin from Pangasinan was there. Walang pang Lights nun. Pilsen!

:D

JC did well with the emcee part. Partida wala pang tulog, galing callcenter.

After the party, I toured the seminaristas with my sis & Sponklong for a night out (or morning out, 2am na e...) around the Malate area. Gusto ko sana band gig sa Baywalk kaso wala nang tumutugtog by the time we arrived. Hinalughog na lang namin ang kasagsagan ng Adriatico and we ended up in this place, Timeout. Adik.

:D

iL try to post pics some other time.

Saglit Lang, Parang SEMECO™

Ngayong araw:
Maligayang bati sa aking utal na si Ribbons alyas Bon Bon. 18th birthday so as most ladies do on their's, there'll be a debutante's ball scheduled on this Sunday.

utal (n) - babaeng utol. Source: Diksyunaryo ni Lolo

Happy birthday, Bon!

*****

Kagahapon:
Tumambay. Pumuntang Mall of Asia.

First time! Astig.

Malaki pala talaga. "ABANGAN!"

Meryenda was at Chocolat's that night. Not bad.

*****
Nung makalwa:

We had our regular airsoft wargames with the rest of Team Screaming BB's.

Attendance: Sultan, Joel, Garrboy, Kuneho, Munggo, Kurnel Paji, Ubaybomber, Brian, Obidoo, Sponklong, Jeng, Jason Phatboi, Jumping Johnny, Manong Jerry, Bozz Gelo ang Oso

Obviously, sinama ko si Sponklong. "Long for short". Hehe. Utol ko yun. I let him join the games so he could experience the "fun". Thing is, I have to sacrifice most of my gears for him to use. I risked playing without a pair of gloves, used a mask that I barely can see for its visor fogs like hell, and played without a protective balaclava and ear covering. It turned out okay anyway.

One more cool thing was the place itself. That will be our team's permanent gaming site and it's waaaay more expansive than where we used to play in San Mateo. It has a natural slope because it's actually by the mountainside and there are actual canopies, high sprawling woods that were scattered as if the place was meant to be a perfect jungle battleground. Galing. Vietnam War reminiscent. I can't wait what our brothers from Team Apocalypse have to say about it when we invite em there.

May malinis na sapa pa on the side where we cleaned up our muddy combat boots.

Grub of the day: sandamakmak na liyempo, sandamakmak na barbecue ribs, sandamakmak na inihaw na manok, sandamakmak na grilled hito, isang basket na turon.... (yub yub!)

Courtesy of Rebel Sports daw sabi ni Joel. Is he serious?

After the game, we headed back to da Shak to disembark da gunz in the armoury sabay takbo sa Hobby Haven sa Katipunan para maglaro ng Battlefield 2. Can't get enough guns on the field so why not have another round of bulletspraying on PC.

Grub of the night: Nissin's (tm) Yakisoba, C2 Red, sandamakmak na pizza from Shakey's (tm)...

*****
Nung sabado:

Tambay sa UP-CFA kaso QC Day daw kaya sarado. Nag-brown out pa nung bandanag alas-8pm (astig) e last week pinag-uusapan lang na parang may multo dun. Kaya ayun, karipas kaming lahat pababa. Hehe.

Gumala Hanggat May Lupa

The basketball game last Wednesday was fun. It was nice to be back and playing with my ol pals in the HP team and for some sort of commemoration, I wore the retro white with blue and yellow trims HP jersey that we used back during the 2004 league.

We lost on the first game but won the second one. I forgot the name of the company we were up against but I believe they're Hewlett Packard associates. The game was at the Mapua IT campus in Jupiter Street. I sort of din't like the playing surface though.

After that, grubtime for the night was at Buddies - Kalayaan (boy, i missed that place!) and I ordered a 20 incher pizza at the nearby Monster Pizza place (at monster talaga size nya!) to bring home something to appease the ravenous folks and siblings. Hehe.

*****

I was absent from work yesterday.

By afternoon, I went to attend Koya Rex and Ate Irene's nuptial in that grandiose church near Mall of Asia. Koya Rex was a former workmate in HP and he was one of those guys who got my feet wet in the reality called "working life" waaaaay back when I was a weeny new employee in HP-P&G, just freshly out of that dank lonely place called a University.

I was a witness to how their lovestory blossomed through the years and I'm proud of Koya Rex on how he worked that out.

Rex and Irene, congratulations!! Enjoy the rest of your life together and have many more babies to come!!! Yeba!

Scrambled L-R: Mike Pusit, Ian Yoda, Al Pajero, Koya Bher, Rhandoy, (on side view) Flashlight Berns, Koya Erwin, Boss Idol Vernon, (half hidden face) Koya JB, Chogi Rik Rik, Obi "Yo Can Doh It-thumbs up" Macapuno, Dee Dee, Dan the Flash, Congressman Engineer Noni, Mher-rainier Castillo, Mayor Kid, Green Lantern Wacha, Bogart, Super Man.

Reception was at the Coconut Palace. It was cool... if my dream of having a beach wedding will be foiled (knock on wood three times), then being wed on this place is a nice alternative. Two of our colleagues spearheaded the entire wedding's organization and it was A-okay. Most people from our old team in HP was there too including the managers themselves. It was nostalgic to see these guys again.

After all the hubbub in the reception have settled, we went straight to the Westine Hotel with the newly weds for some alcohol action.

Absolut Vodka Kurants + cherries + Sprite = gone home at 3am

Ayus!

Because Boredom Could be Lethal

I gots me this game slash challenge last Monday. What a nice way to twiddle thumbs.

http://www.freestuffhotdeals.com/hacker/1.html

I was able to finish it (that's how bored I was) and if you got stuck somewhere just post something here and I could leak out some more clues.

Hint: It's 23 webbies long and has a cute moving image at the end.

*****

I'm currently reading Star Wars: Labyrinth of Evil, a prequel to the movie Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith.

I swapped rooms with my sis so I have to move all of my books which (I was quite surprised) is a LOT. Everything was stacked up on the floor now and I still don't know where to put em this time. I read a good 80% of them and I'll make an inventory sometimes of what I have for posterity's sake and post it here. Geeky isn't it?

*****

Woke up early today, not because I gots me something major to do here in the office. I'll have my first basketball game in four long months since I went to Sydney!! Wahooow!! Mamayang hapon 'to pagtapos ng trabaho.

On the other hand, I'm still trying to muster a playing group for a regular Saturday football session, but I guess circumstances were proving me that the game's just not a Pinoy interest. Slackers.

*****

Sunday airsoft wargames are back and running. I'm on my third (or fourth?) attendance since I went back here in Manila. I gots me my assault rifle's mag lock fixed and looking forward still to upgrade its spring for better "hurting" capability... hehe oops (kidding!). This Sunday we will be trying out our own gamesite which will be somewhere in Antipolo. Wooot! I already saw the pictures from the Sultan and in contrary to our battle-brethren's site in San Mateo (where I played my last Sunday sessions as usual), the place got a LOT of towering canopies, good for some jungle warfare. I saw our ranks are growing too, Little John's lil bro and Rommel's better half are now playing - our lady guerillaz are up by three and our kid kommandoz by two. What a family affair; I might have to bring my lolo to play soon too. *insert innocent grin here*

*****

April gave me that Grimace bobblehead from Mackies. Wooot! Salamats, 3D loser! Hehe. Astig sya kasi kulay violet. Ang kulit tumalbog.

Some English Film

We watched Stormbreaker last Friday in Glorietta Kwatro with Ant Bully and Miami Vice as the other "juicy" choices. I wanted to see Ant Bully on that IMAX cinema in Mall of Asia because I wasn't able to check the one in Sydney. "When", though, is a good question.

Stormbreaker
Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert!

Adapted from a novel of the same title, the movie featured Alex Rider's first mission as a spy for the infamous British secret service network - MI6. This was after his guardian, Ian Rider (Ewan McGregor/Obi-wan Kenobi wooot!), who was an MI6 agent too, was killed on a mission to expose the dirty works of a suspected criminal, Darius Sayle. Although reluctant to continue his spy guardian's mission, Alex was somehow compelled to acquiesce for a trade off to give his friend/housekeeper Jack Starbright (Alicia Silverstone) a permanent UK Visa.

After he was sent for a brief training with the UK SAS elite soldiers, Alex Rider was inserted within Sayle's base operation by disguising as a contest winner to try out Sayle Corporation's Stormbreaker - an educational computer apparatus which was actually rigged with a biological virus. Sayle distributed Stormbreaker units through out England as a goodwill but planned to have the virus released by the Prime Minister himself during a "break in" ceremony.

While inside Sayle's factory, Alex was able to discover all of this and - via ala James Bond kid version's swashbuckling stunts and tricky gadgets - return to the Stormbreaker inauguration ceremonies in the nick of time, preventing the virus to be released. Sayle headed to his office to set off the manual override and release the virus himself, but trailing behind and foiling his schemes once again was Alex. Sayle's own assasin/business partner killed the corporate kingpin by the way. The reason for it is so trivial it's not worth to spoil.

First, I thought this is going to be one of those hardcore gumshoe movies involving international intrigues and knotted plots within plots. Turned out, it's a "Hardy Boys less one boy" type of story of young adults genre - an English Cody Banks came to mind first. It will sure have its appeal for kids and teenage boppers but none for those who'll seek something more complex out of its thought-provoking poster -->

Click me, check out the film poster

The action stunts were good. I think this is the first time I saw an adept use of a lasso in a fight scene. The gadgets were as, I mentioned, "James Bond-ish" but of course designed with a kid in mind: a backpack, a zit cream, a Nintendo DS (marketing plug ala James Bond too! hehe), and a pen. The story flow is predictable but the simplicity could be attributed for it being a sort of kiddy film. Everything that happened to the young spy's mission was just too good to be true.

Casting has a nice lineup. Obi-wan Kenobi was there. Davvy Jones was there, Gollum too. Batwoman is there too, a comeback film for Miss Silverstone. Her age definitely showed but she's still that hot girl with cute lips on the Aerosmith music videos for me. I like the flatness on Bill Nighy's expressions, it mostly comprised the tinges of comedy on the movie. Yep, the movie's not that serious at all (as, again, what I've expected).

In all, the movie's something you'll wish you've just waited to be shown on HBO instead. Nothing greatly spectacular to anticipate. Sakto lang. It would be a nice film treat for the young boys though who'll probably end up idolizing the young spy, Alex.

The moral of the story: Do not judge the movie by its cover poster. Hehe. Five sago.

Xie Xie Peng You

Astig. I gots me-self a Chinese name yesterday.

For some strange reasons, I have this affinity with a LOT of Chinese stuffs (and wimmen... *grin*). In fact, I bought me a LOT of random thingamajigs from the Chinese community in Sydney: jade dice, Chinese chess set, inscribed chopsticks, a well-detailed dragon miniature centerpiece (iL repaint this one for insanity's sake), a small cuddly brass Buddha figurine, and a Buddhist inspired sweater, to name a few. I think it's cool how rich their centuries-old culture is despite modernization and all, most of it are preserved and in practice until now.

So, ayun... I did some research on Chinese name variations and its English equivalents so that the name iL be coining will make sense. I did ask around too for pointers from my Chinese friends. Back in Sydney, I was already talking about Chinese names with my Chinese mates so I at least have some hints on how to formulate. I also had Mandarin as foreign language subject waaaay back in my Uni days (when dinos rule the world) and no matter how inattentive I was, I still can recall some lectures.

Pian Bi Ming
That's pronounced as "piyen bi miyuhng".

"Pian" is the surname. Of course, you know that Chinese starts their name with their surname first before the given name. "Pian" literally translates to "small boat" and that's the closest surname I could get to sound like my real surname.

"Bi Ming" is the given name. "Bi" or "Pi" means a "pen". "Ming" means "name". So "Bi Ming" is a "pseudonym" or a "pen name"... implicitly denoting a person's another name. Generally, I picked it because aside from it being my "other name", "Bi" sounds like Obi so konek pa din. Hehe. Pinilit.

For extra note too, this name was of Mandarin origins. Madami pa kasing dialects ang mga Chinese and most used dito sa Pinas ay yung Fuokien (tama ba spelling??). If you have a Chinese friend here, that's what they most likely use to speak Chinese. Another dialect that I do have some ideas about too is Cantonese, which is in major use in Hong Kong.

About sa encryption ng Chinese characters, the letters above was written using the Traditional Chinese methodology. May general shorthand method kasi which is the Simplified Chinese. Xie xie peng you!

Life on the Frontlines

The relentless downpour did not alleviate the condition of the muddy banks being trudged by our platoon now. With our combat boots well dug into the damp foliage, the 102nd Yellow Band Brigade split into their designated platoons. Reports from headquarters announced the presence of a lingering storm and with it, we should accomplish this operation soon or endure the entire mission on an even worse scenario than the hellhole we are now.

Defend the strategic bridge at all cost. Pffft!

It was definitely not an easy task given the bulk of the enemy milita was known for their proficiency in jungle warfare and we were deployed deep within their territory... their jungle. We all should be extra vigilant if we even wished to make it to the next battle. "War is not dying for yer country but making the goddamn enemy die for his!", I should thank the Drill Sarge for this note. Pffft.

Hiking up a low hill some hefty gap from the makeshift bridge, I dug myself a pseudo-bunker on a patch of low-lying banana trees, relying only on my rain-soaked multi-camouflage to blend with the surroundings. This FN P90 should work wonders or my death warrant will be served from this iffy vantage point. I'd rather wished my HK G3A3 assault rifle was with me but its performance lately was as equally dubious as my chances of killing an enemy in this operation.

Still... who knows?

Several paces downhill was a member of the allied Bravo Squad. His M4 rifle sure looks purty. My envy was cut short though when the signal was raised. The enemy army will be trying to attack the bridge any minutes from now. Drenched wet even beneath our issued BD uniforms, we ducked on our makeshift fortifications, oblivious to the discomfort this wilderness offered.

The waiting is killing me more than the impending bullets I'll be facing soon. My legs are already cramping from immobility but to budge is to give away your position. From afar, I can now hear the first rounds of gunfire - they're here! Setting my gun to burst fire, I saw the Allied Bravo soldier gesturing a series of handsignals to me.

Raised a fist... "Halt".

Two fingers pointing at his eyes... "Enemy spotted".

He held both fingers in front of his face... "Two of them".

Points to a direction... "2 o'clock".

I sluggishly pivoted in place, carefully not to throw away our position, aiming to the direction indicated. No one there. No... wait. Something's amiss on the backdraft. It could be the rain. But then, I saw it! One withered shrubbery shifted and slid to right flank. Infiltrators!

Thud, thud!! Thud, thud, thud!!!

Now I'm hearing the Allied Bravo jarhead also spraying bullets to the same direction I was firing. Indeed, there it was... we hit an enemy sniper in woolly brown ghillie suit that blended efficiently on the wet environment.

Shifting my line of sight back to the bridge below, I saw an enemy scout dashing for the gangplank. Just as he slid towards the bridgehead, the entire platoon defending it sent a barrage of projectiles to the poor git. Still it's too late, our mission was compromised because of that daring move.

"Gaaaaaaame oveeeeer!!!!", I heard the game marshall shouted.

There it goes... another airsoft round. I checked the pellet load on my P90 and headed back to my friends awaiting on the safe zone, while sharing stories with my teammates regarding that last scenario. We lose this round, apparently. But it was fun. Can't wait for the next round.

It's nice to be back!

Saglit Lang, Parang SEMECO™

Ngayong araw:
Maligayang bati sa aking utal na si Ribbons alyas Bon Bon. 18th birthday so as most ladies do on their's, there'll be a debutante's ball scheduled on this Sunday.

Happy birthday, Bon!

Kagahapon:
